I’m cleaning out the file cabinet – awful job! – and finding things I’d written and forgotten years ago. This was in the midst of several meditations I’d written in the days of my formation process for ordination. I vaguely recall it, and thought I’d share it after hearing of a church where they’ve written and now use their own creed. (that never-ending tension between the wisdom inherited and the wisdom newly gained….)
Creed
Ancient of Days,
Father-Mother God,
Bearing the world
In the womb of eternity,
Word in relationship
with creation.
Triune
Creator, Redeemer, Breath of Life
Mingled wine and water,
poured out salvation,
Encased in the rough bark of death,
Shooting forth new life,
You are God –
Beyond comprehension, beyond understanding,
Slipping through the fingers of reason,
Calling, Gathering, Forgiving
Freeing
God.
