Liturgical Ministers
Our liturgical ministers serve in various ways at our Sunday worship.
Worship Leaders are trained at the Diocese for their ministry. They are licensed to lead the worship of the Church in the Offices: Morning and Evening Prayer, etc. Churches often rely heavily on these ministers for Sunday services when clergy is not present.
Lay Preachers also are trained by the Diocese and may preach at any of the services of the Church.
- Eucharistic Ministers carry the Altar Book to and from the altar; they assist the priest at the altar and in serving Holy Communion to the congregation.
- Eucharistic Visitors carry Holy Communion to members of the congregation who are home-bound or ill. They’re sent forth from the congregation before the worship ends, and their worship is continued and concluded with the parishioners they visit.
- Lectors “break open” and share the Word of God by reading the Hebrew Testament, the Psalm and the New Testament to the people gathered.
- Intercessors lead the congregation in the Prayers of the People. Here at Christ Church, individual petitions are read by members of the congregation, while the Intercessor introduces the Prayers and ends by sharing the General Intercessions and any petitions from our neighbors.
- Crucifers lead the procession to and from the altar, carrying the parish cross. Crucifers also lead the Gospel procession to the center aisle, where the priest or deacon reads the Holy Gospel. Sometimes we have acolytes or parishioners who accompany the crucifer as “torch bearers”, carrying lighted candles.
